Copper an Element in its own right. Copper has been used for Jewellery for many years. Its main uses nowadays are Electrical Conductors and Switchgear, Water pipe, electro plating, kettles, roof cladding and nails.
Copper is a relatively soft metal until worked, Copper will work harden and may require annealing numerous times if being worked.
Copper is a very durable metal until it hardens and then it is likely to crack if you continue to work it without annealing it once again.
To anneal copper it should be heated to a cherry red colour and left to cool. The copper article can then be reworked again until it hardens.
The Main use of Copper nowadays is for electrical conductors and switchgear. Although it is still used for kettles, roof cladding and many other applications.
Copper is also one of the constituents of Brass along with Zinc and small quantities of other metals like Tin.
